Chapter 381 Do Your Best
"Roar, roar, roar!" The zombie struggled to get up, its blood-red eyes filled with hatred. It let out a series of angry roars, seemingly unwilling to be taken down so easily.
Unfortunately, its body was riddled with wounds, bleeding profusely, and soon it lost its life.
Dennis wiped the sweat from his forehead and let out a long sigh of relief. That was incredibly close.
However, he also knew that without the gun in his hand, tonight's situation would have turned out very differently.
"Are you okay?" Alex asked, coming down from the truck with concern.
"Thanks," Dennis smiled and then asked, "Why did these zombies suddenly attack you?"
"I don't know! We entered the city and found many zombies gathering here. I originally wanted to take a detour, but these zombies swarmed us, making it impossible to defend against them!" Alex explained bitterly.
"It's not safe here. We should leave as soon as possible," Dennis said after a moment of thought.
"I think so too," Alex nodded.
"Roar, roar, roar!" Suddenly, deafening roars came from afar, making both Dennis and Alex's expressions serious.
"What kind of monster is that? The sound is terrifying!" Dennis couldn't help but swallow hard.
"Roar, roar, roar!" Another earth-shattering roar echoed, shaking the air.
"God, how terrifying is this thing?" Dennis's heart pounded with fear, goosebumps rising all over his body.
Alex smiled wryly, "How would I know! Judging by the roar, it must be some kind of mutant beast, and probably a high-level one."
"I think we should avoid it! This thing is too scary. If we don't leave now, we won't be able to run away," Dennis urged anxiously, not wanting to die.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
"Alright! Let's find a place to rest for now," Alex agreed.
"Boom, boom, boom..." The next moment, deafening thunder rumbled through the night sky, and an endless gale rose, whipping up a storm of dust.
"My God!" Seeing the spectacular scene, Dennis couldn't help but widen his eyes in amazement and disbelief.
Alex was also stunned, standing there like a wooden statue, clearly shocked by the sight.
A massive swarm of zombies was surging towards them, blotting out the moon like a plague of locusts.
Countless zombies, numbering in the tens of thousands, filled the horizon as far as the eye could see.
"Hiss, hiss!" Numerous green, glowing tongues flicked out, emitting a bone-chilling, sharp hiss.
"Oh my God! Is this a swarm of mutant beasts? How can there be so many?" Dennis gasped, feeling a chill run down his spine, his heart nearly leaping out of his chest.
"No! It's a swarm of iron-armored ants!" Alex suddenly shouted.
"Iron-armored ants?" Dennis was momentarily stunned upon hearing this.
Iron-armored ants were a type of mutant insect similar to ants but much larger, incredibly tough, and extraordinarily strong.
It was said that iron-armored ants could tear through steel and had sharp teeth capable of easily shredding any living creature.
The main issue was that iron-armored ants were highly social creatures. When threatened, they would scatter and then regroup, becoming even stronger.
These creatures had an extremely high reproductive rate and a significant population, producing hundreds or even thousands of offspring each year.
The most terrifying feature of iron-armored ants was their tendency to launch a frenzied counterattack when faced with danger, regardless of the enemy's numbers.
"With so many iron-armored ants, we're doomed," Alex said, his face filled with despair.
Dennis frowned and asked, "How do you know it's a swarm of iron-armored ants?"
"I've encountered them before," Alex sighed. "It was in the suburbs. Our team was in a fierce battle with a group of zombies when we got surrounded by tens of thousands of iron-armored ants."
"We fought bravely, managing to kill thousands of them, but we suffered heavy casualties, leaving only me and the second-in-command."
Alex's face showed deep sorrow, then he forced a bitter smile. "I fought desperately to carve a bloody path, leading the remaining few comrades back to the base."
"After that, we gathered all the survivors to jointly resist the invasion of the iron-armored ants."
"The situation was extremely tragic. The entire base was awash with blood, bodies were strewn everywhere, and there were countless casualties."
"By the time we had killed all the iron-armored ants, the entire base was destroyed, and we couldn't even find a single intact body."
Recalling the turbulent days of the past, Alex felt a surge of sadness.
"Could it be that when the number of iron-armored ants reaches a certain point, they cause such immense destruction?" Dennis speculated to himself.
However, Dennis didn't press further. These events were long past, and all he needed to know was that the current situation was terrifying enough.
"Roar, roar, roar!" Suddenly, an earth-shaking roar echoed, making everyone's eardrums buzz.
Dennis felt his chest churn, a sweetness in his throat, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.
"Damn, how powerful is this monster?" Dennis's face turned ashen, his body trembling.
"Retreat!" Alex shouted, pulling Dennis along to escape.
Though both had sustained minor injuries, they were more than capable of handling a regular zombie. But facing such a behemoth, their chances of survival were slim.
"Boom, boom, boom..." A series of explosions rang out as Alex pulled out a flamethrower and fired it at the massive creature.
Dennis quickly took out a smoke grenade and threw it towards the rapidly advancing iron-armored ants.
"Shhh—" The smoke instantly spread, enveloping an area of several dozen meters.
"Roar, roar, roar..." The iron-armored ants, agitated and restless, stopped in their tracks, struggling violently.
At the same time, a pungent stench filled the air, making Dennis dizzy.
"Did we win?" Alex sighed in relief, his face lighting up with excitement.
"Not so easy," Dennis shook his head, speaking gravely. "The smoke only temporarily halts the iron-armored ants' advance. They are still vicious and bloodthirsty. We must retreat immediately, or we'll be trapped and face a deadly assault!"
As he spoke, Dennis and Alex quickly rushed out of the smoke-covered area and continued to flee.
"Thud, thud..." Two muffled sounds came from behind, and two bodies fell from the sky. They were the two ability users from earlier.
"Sigh!" Dennis sighed deeply, mourning the two fallen comrades for a moment.
Then, Dennis and Alex picked up their pace, avoiding the iron-armored ants' attacks while searching for a hiding place.
"Boom, boom, boom!" The roars of the iron-armored ants grew closer. They seemed to have lost all sense of reason, frenziedly pursuing with the intent to tear them apart.
Dennis and Alex were focused on running, not noticing the proximity of the iron-armored ants.
"Ah..." Just then, Alex's arm was bitten by an iron-armored ant, and blood immediately gushed out.
