Chapter 274: College senior
''Housewarming party?'' Brenda hung up the call from Kristine and turned to look at Robyn with a questionable gaze. She wondered why he couldn't tell her when they were together in the same space and had to call Ronald and then the latter would ask Kristine to tell her about it.
''I just moved in and want to throw a small welcome party for myself'' Robyn said to her.
''You don't look like someone who would just throw a welcome party?'' Brenda felt that his actions were a little suspicious.
''Don't look at me with such eyes. It's like whatever I do will forever be suspicious in your eyes. Are you helping me with the shopping or not?'' he stood up from his desk and looked at her.
''You didn't even invite me and you want me to help you?'' Brenda cocked her brows at him.
''I thought you would say no if I asked you directly, I could only pass through Kristine'' he had wanted to tell her, but her behaviour was so unpredictable that he didn't know when she would explode on him. He really wanted to invite her but didn't know how to go about it. The only way he knew how was to go around the block by asking Ronald who then asked Kristine.
''Let's go. I want to see how your new house looks like'' Brenda said after looking at his face that was casted down.
Instantly, his eyes lit up and smiled saying, ''really?''
''I don't go back on my words'' Brenda said proudly. She wasn't one to go back on her words and say the excited look on his face, she couldn't bear to say no either ways,
''I will call my cousin. He is new here and doesn't have any place to go. He is starting his professional lecturing at the College of Professional Studies next month. he just came from Country G''
''He is a professor?'' Brenda furrowed her brows.
''Yes, he is the youngest Professor in the school currently. He is very intelligent''
''How old is he?''
''30 this year. I'm 2 years older than him and that makes me 4 years older than you''
''Why are you suddenly talking about my age? I never asked for yours?''
''You seem to be curious about my cousin and I am not comfortable with that''
''Wow, relax. I am not curious about him at all. I am just curious about the fact that he is a Professor at such a young age''
''I see''
''Wait, you weren't jealous, right?''
''What if I was? What if I wasn't?'' Robyn took his bag and walked out and she followed out.
..
Jenny turned to look at Cody after her call with Kristine. She walked to him and asked, ''Kody, will you be comfortable going somewhere with me?''
''Where?'' Kody was looking at the interior and writing a few things on his iPad. He was making designs on it for the workshop.
''Someone we know is throwing a housewarming party and has invited us''
''That's cool by me. As long as you are there, I don't mind'' he said and placed his arm around her should affectionately.
Jenny blushed and asked him, ''you don't you have a girlfriend?''
''Girlfriend, I have you. why do I need a girlfriend?'' he asked back and went to pick his bag. Jenny looked at him until he turned back to her.
''What did you say?'' Jenny asked and he chuckled.
''Why are you so serious? I was joking with you, let's go'' he held her hand and went out with her. He didn't know why he lied to her at that moment, but he felt that he couldn't tell her the truth. That he was back because of her.
.
Chloe walked out of the caf after also receiving Kristine's call. She was about to go to the roadside when she saw her boss standing beside his car. It looked like he was waiting for her, but she didn't understand his reason.
He had insisted on giving her a ride when she clocked off from work. She simply asked him to drop her off at the caf and leave because she didn't want to be seen with him, but she had no idea that he was still waiting for her outside. She had spent over 30 minutes browsing the website of the school she wanted to enrol in and had it not been the call of Kristine, she would have forgotten how much time she spent inside the caf.
''Sir, are you waiting for me?'' she asked after getting near to him.
''Yes, Chloe. I was worried about you'' Arnold said and smiled.
''Worried about me? Why?'' Chloe faced him with a puzzled expression.
''I guess I didn't want to leave you alone today'' Arnold chuckled.
''Thank you for your concern but you don't need to do this for me. I am fine. I will take my leave right now'' Chloe said and turned to go and he held her hand.
''Chloe I'' he didn't know why he couldn't bear to let her go even after they decided to let things be at the office.
''Sir, what is the meaning of this?'' Chloe turned to look at him, suddenly feeling uncomfortable with the way he was behaving.
''I like you, Chloe'' Arnold said. He had tried to control himself but he felt that he couldn't do it anymore.
''What?'' Chloe stiffened as she looked at him. She curled her fist tightly as she stared at his face.
Not far from them, a young man came out of the same caf and walked towards his car which was just closed to Arnold's car. He was making a call and turned to glance at them before opening his car to go in.
''I said I like you Chloe'' Arnold repeated himself and Chloe said to him.
''I heard you the first time, but, you and I can't be together. You have a fiance and I don't want to be a third party in another person's love story'' she had made herself clear. She didn't want to be the third wheel and be the reason why another person's relationship didn't work out. She just wanted to get away and put the whole thing behind her. get a new goal and work towards it.
''I don't love her. It was an arranged marriage'' Arnold tried to explain but Chloe cut him short not wanting to listen anymore.
''I don't care. Everyone knows about you two. What do you think people would say if they found out that you and I have something going on when you are still engaged to your fiance? Listen, the gazes of people and the kind of words that come out from their mouths can ruin the life of someone and I don't want to be the one whose life will get ruined'' she knew very well what will happen to her if news of this sort of thing got out. She couldn't allow this to ruin her life. She needed to stop it before it got out of hand.
''But, you love me. As long as you agree to it, I will call off the engagement and be with you'' he had thought about it while waiting for her. He had made up his mind that, as long as she agreed to it, he was willing to break off the engagement with Amanda and be with her but that also meant he couldn't get his family's blessings.
''No. I won't agree to it so don't ask me to. I might have feelings for you but I don't think with my heart. What is socially unacceptable will always be unacceptable in my eyes. Also, for the record, your fiance knows the one you kissed that night wasn't her but me. She is only pretending to not know about it, so please, don't things difficult for me and let me go'' Chloe tried to take away his hand that held unto her wrist tightly. It was starting to hit as he was putting pressure on it.
''What is happening here?'' a voice spoke from behind them and they turned and saw Amanda.
''Amanda, what are you doing here?'' Arnold was flustered upon seeing his fiance.
''I was going home when I saw your car and decided to check. I thought it couldn't be your car'' Amanda walked to them and looked at their hands. She had just finished with her pedicure and was leaving when she saw the car and got a feeling that it belonged to her fiance and decided to check for herself only to meet the two of them here.
Chloe removed her hand away from his grip, ''I will take my leave now'' she said and turned to go when Amanda stopped her.
''Wait. Didn't you say that you were quitting? What are you doing with someone else' fianc? You told me you were going to resign and leave my fianc alone and I believed you but that was all a lie?''
Behind them, the man was about to get into his car when he heard their conversation and turned to look at them. When his eyes settled on Chloe, he seemed to have recognised her as he murmured, 'it's her. The woman who helped me that year. That college junior I've been looking for'' he looked at the other woman and the man with her and frowned, getting a clear understanding of the situation.
