Chapter 375: Worth A Try
Chapter 375: Worth A Try
The boy gently fed her two spoonfuls of water before turning to Yao Ran and saying, "This is my younger sister. Elder Sister, do you know what kind of medicine she needs?"
Looking at the root-like deformities on the girl's feet, Yao Ran recognized that her mutation was in its late stages. Without treatment, she would soon transform into a mutant tree.
Yao Ran approached the bed, checked the girl's pulse, temperature, and legs, and then said, "I can cure her, but you will need to find where Chen Zizhen lives."
The boy's eyes lit up at her words. He nodded and excitedly said, "No problem! I will go find out right away!"
Before leaving, the boy gently held his younger sister's hand and whispered, "Elder Brother will be back soon."
After saying that, he turned to Yao Ran and Long Yu and said, "Elder Sister, I'm leaving my younger sister in your care."
Yao Ran met his gaze and nodded. "Don't worry. When you come back, your younger sister should recover by then."
Though skeptical, the boy decided to trust her. Giving his younger sister one last look, he hurried out to complete his task.
After the boy left, Yao Ran took out a bottle of lake water and fed the little girl a few spoonfuls. Then, she carefully examined her root-like legs.
Seeing that the deformation remained unchanged even after drinking the lake water, Yao Ran poured the water directly onto the girl's legs. After waiting for a moment, she noticed that the water had been absorbed by the root-like legs, leaving no residue.
Half a minute later, the root-like legs began to soften.
Long Yu, who was observing from the side, said, "It's working."
Yao Ran nodded and continued to pour the lake water little by little onto the girl's legs. Each time the root-like legs absorbed the lake water, she added more, repeating the process until the girl's legs returned to their normal form.
Picking up some dried roots that had fallen off the girl's legs, Yao Ran inspected them closely. Breaking one apart, she discovered an internal structure resembling human soft tissue, muscles, and nerves.
She showed the dried root to Long Yu and said, "A Yu, look at this."
Long Yu took the dried root from her and inspected it. His expression changed when he noticed the structure inside the dried root.
Putting the dried root down, he said, "The root is really part of her legs."
Yao Ran nodded. "Yes."
After a brief silence, she added, "A Yu, don't you think the deformation is progressing faster in this life?"
Long Yu thought for a moment and replied, "You are right. I remember that in our previous life, the deformation process took over four years. Only during the sixth year after the end of the world began did some humans fully transform into mutants."
Frowning slightly, he asked, "Ran Ran, can you figure out why the deformation process has sped up?"
Yao Ran shook her head and sighed. "I'm not an expert in biology, so I can't determine the cause."
After a moment of pause, she suggested, "Should we share this information with Wu Yehao? If The Origin was truly established to counter The Ark, as he claimed, they should at least have access to similar technology as The Ark."
"No one has more advanced technology in DNA research than The Ark. If The Origin really matches their level, they might be able to find answers to our questions."
Long Yu pondered on her suggestion, weighing the pros and cons.
After a long silence, he finally said, "It's worth a try. We can use this matter to test whether Wu Yehao's claims are true and decide if The Origin is an ally or an enemy."
"Alright. Let's do as you suggest," Yao Ran agreed as she stored the dried root in her space.
While they were discussing, the little girl's fingers twitched. Noticing this, Long Yu said, "It seems she is waking up."
Hearing this, Yao Ran turned to the little girl and checked her pulse. After confirming that she was fine but malnourished, Yao Ran patiently waited for her to wake.
It didn't take long before the little girl opened her eyes.
Yao Ran smiled at her and asked, "Little girl, do you know where you are?"
The little girl looked at her in confusion before asking weakly, "Elder Sister, who are you? Where is my elder brother?"
Seeing that the little girl could speak normally, Yao Ran replied, "Your elder brother brought us here to cure you. He is out working now, but we will stay here until he returns."
The little girl stared at Yao Ran for a while, then nodded.
Noticing her chapped lips, Yao Ran asked, "Are you thirsty? Would you like something to drink?"
The little girl licked her pale lips but shook her head, glancing at the remaining lake water in the bottle on the bed. After hesitating for a moment, she said, "I'm not thirsty. I will keep the water for my elder brother."
Seeing her staring at the bottle, Yao Ran took out three bottles of diluted lake water from her space.
She placed the bottles on the bed and said, "There is more. You should drink if you are
thirsty."
When the little girl saw the extra bottles of water, she finally nodded.
Yao Ran opened one and asked, "Can you drink by yourself?"Nôv(el)B\\jnn
The little girl nodded again and took the bottle from her. Watching her gulp down the water, Yao Ran reminded her, "Drink slowly."
After the little girl finished the remaining lake water, Yao Ran retrieved a bowl of corn and egg porridge from her space. As she opened the lid, the aroma filled the small room.
Seeing the girl swallow hungrily, Yao Ran asked, "Can you eat by yourself?"
After drinking the lake water, the little girl regained some strength and managed to sit up. Hearing the question, she widened her eyes in disbelief and asked, "Is...is that for me?"
What do you think?
