Chapter 1024: Teamwork Makes The Dreamwork
Chapter 1024: Teamwork Makes The Dreamwork
Behind him, the members of his party shivered slightly, a natural reaction to a draconic aura suddenly getting unleashed like this at close proximity. But they recovered in seconds, going back to their confident selves.
However, his roar had precisely the effect he wanted.
The two dragonkin's eyes lit up in rage at the defiance of their master, and their guisarmes instantly rose and struck out toward him in a piercing motion.
But Alexander's body was already done fusing with Shegror, and his strength far surpassed a regular human's already.
Grabbing the spikes aimed at him with one hand each, his feet skid a single step back before they felt all their strength come to a stop, Alexander flashing them a nasty grin.
"Did you think you two lessers could copy a dragon's strength?" he mocked, letting a bit of Shegror's inner monologue out.
With a groan of effort, Alex pushed back the spiky ends of the guisarmes back, forcing both dragonkin back a few steps, their eyes wide for a moment before rage settled back in over surprise.
"Winston! Now!" Kary shouted, not wanting to let both enemies Alex too long.
Winston ran forward, stopping barely outside the dragonkin's weapon range, and slammed his shield with his mace, infusing mana into the strike and its echo as he shouted at the dragonkin on the right.
"Over here, you oversized gecko!"
Immediately, as the words reached the dragonkin's ears, its gaze snapped to the child insulting him.
"Gecko?! You insolent little runt! I'll show you the might of a dragonkin!" it shouted, swinging its guisarme in a wide arc, the hook side on a reaping trajectory.
"Shit," Winston dropped, as he felt the pressure of the wind the weapon carried heading toward him.
He braced his shield with both hands, lowering his stance as he got ready to block the hit. As the weapon collided with his shield, he felt wind pick up behind him, shooting into his shield like wind into a parachute, and the pressure instantly lessened.
To his left, he also heard a different clanging of metal on metal as Killian rushed to his side to relieve some pressure from the powerful blow, crossing his two blades into an X and absorbing some of the blow at the spike part.
He knew that if he wasn't powerful enough to block it, at least being there meant he wouldn't get bisected. But his help and Jonathan's instantly lessened the load on Winston, whose face stretched into a grin.
The blow pushed him and Killian back a few feet as they skid to a halt, leaving tracks in front of them, but it was stopped nonetheless.
And it wasn't a second later that the action began on their side.
Jonathan blew past Winston, the wind under his feet acting like a slick surface he skated on as he glided up the shaft of the lowered weapon.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Of course, the dragonkin wouldn't let him come up his weapon and arm with impunity and was already twisting his weapon to make the child lose balance.
Unfortunately for him, since Jonathan wasn't running directly on the weapon's shaft, the action did nothing to deter him as he reached the enemy's hand and started gliding up to his face.
"Get off me, filth!" the dragonkin shouted, lowering his head to take a bite at Jonathan.
However, before his head could lower even a foot in the kid's direction, a fireball crashed into the side of its face, pushing his head back with force. And Jonathan used that opening without losing a second.
"Wind Cutter!" he shouted, two blades of pure wind appearing from his fist.
Covering the few feet that separated him from his goal, Jonathan crossed his arms in front of him and slashed both wind blades across the giant dragonkin's face, slashing at its eye.
He then launched off the monster's shoulder, letting the wind carry him away before he spun back to look at it.
The dragonkin roared in pain, retracting its weapon in a guarding stance before its head snapped toward its back, where Jonathan was flying off.
"Die!" it roared, swinging the weapon in a backhanded motion toward the one that had wounded it.
Jonathan's grin didn't abate, as he closed his eyes, focusing his senses on the air inside the
room.
In his mind, the room became a monochrome of black and green, everything else fading away, and he saw the lines of green bend in his direction, forming an unmistakable outline.
He left the surrounding air coalesce around his body, forming a bubble only visible to him and people who could see mana clearly, and waited for the strike to come.
On the ground, his allies weren't about to let the enemy strike at one of theirs without taking a few bites themselves.
Winston dashed to the dragonkin's foot, slamming his mace directly into the Achilles tendon, if the monster even had one, all the while yelling at it, "Who told you to look away, you fugly salamander!"
Killian had already traded out his swords for his bow, and as he dashed back into his team's back line, he fired two arrows at the monster's un-wounded eye, hoping to make a difference. Kary had already launched a stream of flames at the monster's legs, hoping the pressure would force it to buckle, but was sporting a disappointed frown as the fire seemed to lick around the legs without much effect.
"Tch. Freaking fire resistance," she cursed under her breath.
The dragonkin also closed the eye at which two arrows were flying, seeing them distinctly, and the arrowheads dinged against the almost metallic hide protecting it, making Killian curse his luck.
The only one with a fraction of luck was Winston, whose blow sent an electric-like shock up the dragonkin's leg, making its knee bend slightly, sending the blow off course.
It wasn't enough to make the guisarme miss Jonathan entirely, but he hoped it would allow him to dodge the blow comfortably.
But he watched as Jonathan closed his eyes with a grin, and his heart dropped to the pit of his
stomach.
"What the fuck are you doing?!" he shouted, as the blade reached his friend.
They all watched in horror as the guisarme's hook slashed at their friend, sending him
spinning in the air.
"Jonathan!" Kary screamed in horror.
