Chapter 345 Assassin Class
Shortly after getting dragged away by Carmen, they arrived at a somewhat discreet place.
"Guild Leader, be honest, do you know why Elder Yaren forced you to go to the Abyssal Rift?" Carmen demanded. "Also, what does Elder Yaren mean by baptized? Is it related to that sudden power-up you demonstrated when confronting the other contestants?"
Numerous questions began to bombard Xu Feng, prompting him to be stunned, not knowing which one to answer precisely.
He had no choice but to cover Carmen's mouth with his hand to stop her from speaking any longer. "Can you give me a second to recollect my thoughts and answer them properly?"
Carmen blinked her eyes twice, indicating that she understood and wanted him to remove his hand.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
After removing his hands, Xu Feng began to explain the baptized state. He didn't conceal much aside from where he got baptized from.
"So if a player received a baptism, they could gain an insane power-up?" Carmen rubbed her chin softly.
"Yeah, sounds about right."
"What do you mean sounds about right? Is there more benefit aside from the power-up?"
"Yes, but we'll be staying here till nighttime comes and we still won't be able to finish explaining its actual use." Xu Feng smiled bitterly.
"Tsk, acting all mysterious suddenly. Is this your deliberate manner in rousing my curiosity but won't actually give me anything until the situation requires it?" Carmen pursed her lips.
Coughing, Xu Feng was truly helpless at her interrogation. "Anyway, because of this baptized state, Conductor Yaren realized I am capable of accomplishing the tasks she asked for."
"I guessed so." Carmen knitted her brows and temporarily decided to let him off easily. If it weren't for the fact that Xu Feng had mentioned he needed to safeguard her once she followed him to the Abyssal Rift, then she would have ensured he would get a piece of her mind.
'Hmph, consider yourself lucky, Feng.' Carmen thought to herself, forgiving Xu Feng for concealing this much information from her.
Since she was considered a real member of the Vanguard Guild, not knowing much about him was truly like a thorn in her mind.
It was equivalent to working with your friend and giving your all to provide the best result, but you then realized you knew nothing about that person.
Others might call her annoying or prying too much in the person's interest, but when you want to work with someone close such as your friend or buddy, then you would wish to be privy to some information unknown to others.
If one was not interested in learning them, then there was only one explanation. You don't care for that person or wish to put in any effort to succeed.
This was also why Xu Feng decided to reveal some information to her. He valued her as a guild member and did not wish for a rift to erupt in their relationship.
Sometime later, the two of them waited at the exit gate of Paradise Plains.
"Hmm, this beef skewer is really juicy and tender." Carmen smiled blissfully. "The veggies next to it are greatly harmonized with the beef, enhancing the overall flavor and boosting the umami taste."
Xu Feng twitched his brows when he heard her speaking like some gourmet expert.
While walking here, Carmen sniffed something good and practically forced him to buy a few to eat.
At this moment, Xu Feng really wondered what kind of disaster would occur if Zhao Kai and Carmen ever met up.
'Is my wallet going to be safe or will these two eat them all up?' He suddenly shivered briefly, unable to fathom the perilous moment for his wallet.
Thankfully, his imaginary nightmare was temporarily set aside with the arrival of Crimson Heart.
"Beef skewer?" Crimson Heart was taken aback upon seeing Carmen eating, her lips somewhat greasy from the cooking oil.
"Do you want some as well?" Xu Feng offered, his hand still holding a few skewers.
"Those are mine though, Guild Leader." Carmen quickly swallowed a piece of beef and exclaimed. "If she wants some, then sure, she can pay me 5 copper coins."
"The beef skewer only cost 2 copper coins." Before Xu Feng could respond, Crimson Heart interjected and gazed at Carmen. For some reason, she believed Carmen was hostile toward her and she didn't understand why.
Unfortunately for her belief, Carmen simply didn't want to share her food, creating a lovely misconception.
"There's going to be a long distance from here to the Abyssal Rift. Letting her eat one of the skewers ensures her stamina wouldn't decrease too fast. Otherwise, we might have to waste a lot more time when traveling." Xu Feng explained.
"Fine," Carmen relented, clearly unwilling to delay their journey.
"Then I shall thank you." Crimson Heart smiled slightly, took one of the skewers, and began eating it.
She had spotted these skewers long ago when she arrived at Paradise Plains.
However, the cost of 2 copper coins was simply too much of a scam for her.
For the same price of 2 copper coins, she could purchase 3 loaves of bread, albeit with a lower buff effect.
"Alright, let's not delay any further." Xu Feng quickly said, feeling somewhat fearful upon seeing Crimson Heart's glistening expression. It was precisely the same kind of expression that somewhat corrupted Carmen into enjoying the food in the Divine World.
He really did not wish to have another foodie on the team, so he decided to rush them, not giving Crimson Heart a chance to truly enjoy her food.
As they began their journey, Carmen's eyes widened in shock when she realized Crimson Heart's class.
"Wait a minute, you're an Assassin?" Carmen initially thought she was either an Arcane Mage or Sorcerer due to her gears.
"She wears that kind of gear purposely to play the pig to eat a tiger." Xu Feng calmly explained.
Meanwhile, Crimson Heart glanced at him with an astonished look. She didn't think he would be able to guess her motive from the start.
"An Arcane Mage and Sorcerer are deemed easy targets once they enter close combat. So I disguise myself as one to lure them to me." Crimson Heart snickered coldly, relishing the moments when some foolish players entered close-combat range to attack her.
An Assassin might specialize in ambush, but that didn't mean their close-combat skills were any weaker.
