Chapter 1038: The Trial of Janvidr [Part 1]
Chloe was a bit hesitant to take the trial because this wasn't the reason they came to Sylvarath Aelindor.
For some reason, just hearing the name of the trial made her heart beat wildly inside her chest as if she was having a very bad premonition about the place.
However, getting the help of the Firbolgs in their time of great need was also a very enticing offer.
Because of this, she decided to let Ethan make the final decision on whether they would take the trial or not.
Ethan didn't accept or reject the Great Shaman's invitation to take the trial right away. Instead, he asked her first what the trial entailed.
"The Trial of Janvidr will take place in the Realm of Janvidr," Lady Arawina explained. "There, a Jotun Giant gave birth to monstrous wolves, who have the bloodline of Fenrir. According to legend, one of these wolves would become strong enough to devour the moon. "Of course, this legend might only be an exaggeration. But, there is one certain thing about this tale. Janvidr is indeed a place where a Giantess lived and sired monstrous wolves. In order to pass this trial, you must gain her recognition or tame the wolf who has the power to devour the moon."
Ethan didn't know whether such a wolf existed or not. However, he was thankful that he didn't bring Luna on this journey.
Since the young lady was connected to the Moon, this wolf might just devour her if she had accompanied him on this journey with Chloe.
"This trial sounds very dangerous," Ethan said. "What will happen if we reject it?"
"Nothing will happen," Lady Arawina replied. "The two of you will still be friends of the Sylvan Clan. But, we will remain in this place even if the outside world falls into ruins."
"Even if staying leads to your downfall?" Chloe inquired. "Since the invaders have broken through the weave, it is possible that they will be able to enter your domain from up there." Chloe pointed to the roof of the house, but in truth, she was pointing towards the sky.
"If that is our destiny, then so be it," Lady Arawina replied. "Firbolgs follow the Old Ways and are very resistant to change. Even if it leads to our destruction, such is the code that we follow.
"Of course, it is also our duty to defend the weak and the innocent, as well as protect the world from corruption. However, we have stayed too long here in the Sylvan Realm. Our roots have grown very deep, so we will only leave it if someone forces us to do so."
Her gaze softened a bit as she gazed at the two teenagers in front of her.
"And the Lady of Destiny, accompanied by a True King, will have enough influence to make us join the fight against those who wish to destroy our world," Lady Arawina said. "Still, you first need to gain the recognition of our Clan, and that can only be done by accomplishing the Trial of Janvidr."
The Great Shaman then raised her hand as if to stop Ethan and Chloe from saying anything. "I'll give you until sunrise tomorrow to decide," Lady Arawina stated. "For now, rest. I can tell that both of you are still tired and weary from your journey to get here. Come, I'll take you to my guest room."Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Without another word, Lady Arawina stood up and walked towards the interior of her home. Ethan and Chloe followed along and were ushered to a simple room.
However, since the room was made for giants, everything was big, including the bed, which was more than enough for Ethan and Chloe to sleep comfortably together.
"Take a nap, and I will call for you when dinner comes," Lady Arawina said. "After that, you may explore the Fortress and see how our Clan lives in this place we call home."
After bidding them a good rest, Lady Arawina finally left.
"Let's shower before we rest," Ethan proposed.
They had been traveling for a while, and both of them were exhausted and in need of a good rest.
Chloe found this suggestion good, so the two of them went to the bathroom together before taking their well-deserved nap.

Somewhere in Southshire...
Lily sat on the balcony of her room, looking at the Great Forest of her home.
They had just arrived a few hours ago, and everyone was resting.
Ethan's mother, Lady Catherine, was busy chatting with Seff's other wives, exchanging stories with each other.
Since they were in-laws, the ladies got along really well.
Merric and the other Catkins decided to stay for two days to restock their supplies, after which they'd head back to the academy.
Lady Catherine would be staying until Lily gave birth, so they decided to leave some Catkins to act as her Protectors.
Since they were technically Beastkins as well, there was no problem with them staying in Southshire.
'I wonder what he and Chloe are doing right now?' Lily thought. 'Have they reached their destination?'
Although she didn't want to admit it, she was starting to miss Ethan.
During the two months that they were together, she and her husband had been together almost every day.
There had been instances where Ethan would go on trips and missions that would last for weeks or even months.
However, since she knew that he would eventually return to the academy, she didn't miss him as much as she missed him now.
'I hope he visits me before I give birth,' Lily mused as she lightly rubbed her belly, which now had a small bump in it.
A look of tenderness and affection flashed in her eyes as she looked down at the fruit of Ethan's love that was growing inside of her body.
'I don't know if you're a boy or a girl,' Lily thought. 'My only wish is for you to be born safely
and healthy.'
She knew that Ethan wanted a daughter, but deep inside, she wanted a son.
Of course, she didn't mind if she gave birth to a daughter first. But giving birth to a son was something that nobles looked forward to, for they would be the heir of the family.
Technically, Ethan was a Prince of Caer Wydion and Atlantis.
He would need an heir to take his place once he stepped down from his position. Lily hoped that she would bear him a son before Illumina did, which would ensure that his lineage would continue in the future.
'Be safe, Ethan,' Lily said as she looked in the distance. 'Our baby and I will be waiting for you.'
With that, Lily closed her eyes and began to hum a song.
Although her baby was still small, she couldn't help but sing him or her a lullaby, which her own mother, Leah, had sung to her back when she was still a baby.
Leah and Lady Catherine, who heard Lily's humming, glanced at each other and exchanged
smiles.
They had been in the same position as her several years ago and understood the feeling of tenderness that they felt for their unborn child, whom they would care for and love once they were safely born into the world.
What do you think?
